The Single Most Effective Way to Refocus And Calm Down
We all have a lot going on. Distraction, stress and anxiety can set in. Through it all I have discovered the single most effective way to refocus and calm down: just say Jesus. It seems overly simple, but speaking the Name of Jesus out loud, in a prayerful way, has changed my life! See, when life closes me in, Jesus’ Name opens the door to where I need to go!
A few years ago I began studying the power of Jesus’ name. Check these scriptures out:
“Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11
“The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!” Luke 10:17
“And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
Certainly there is great power in His Name! And there are so many more scriptures about the power of Jesus’ name. I encourage you to study this subject. Whether you have studied it before or not, it’s a great way to have a deeper understanding and respect for our awesome Jesus!
Putting It Into Practice
When I put this simple prayer of faith into action, over and over again His Name, Jesus, changed my little world! His Name pierced the darkness that tried to overtake me. Here are a few examples:
- Overcoming fear to speak publicly
- Calming anxious thoughts about my kids
- Being able to stay quiet when words would only hurt
- Controlling anger at offensive people
- Refocusing on Jesus when circumstances look hopeless
- Changing my negative attitude to one of gratefulness
A Great Reward
The Christian Music Band 7eventh Time Down released a song called “Just Say Jesus.” I could not believe how their song said everything I was experiencing!
Then the Lord totally knocked my socks off: He orchestrated for me to meet Eric VanZant from 7eventh Time Down! Not just meet him, but sing with him at our friends (Janae and Clayton’s) wedding! Seriously? Amazingly the original plan was for me to sing with a different person who was unable to fly in! Singing with Eric and talking to him about his song that had ministered to me so powerfully…was surreal!! To me, it was like God was saying, “Keep going! You’re getting it, my child.” It was a beautiful reward and affirmation. Only God!
Unequaled Power In The Name of Jesus
There is power in the name of Jesus! Praying “Jesus” the name above every name, is definitely the single most effective way to refocus and calm down. The demons flee at His Name! As the song goes, “When you don’t know what to say, just say Jesus!”
When I am scared, stressed, anxious, distracted etc. I speak His name! One word, Jesus, declares that He is in charge, He holds all the power, and He is with me!
